Privacy Policy

Last updated October 7, 2026

This policy explains what data ChinaTravelBible.com (the "Site") collects when you visit, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It covers this Site only — not the third-party sites we link to.

1. The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell your personal data.
  • We collect standard technical data (such as pages viewed and approximate location by country) to understand what is useful.
  • Advertising and analytics providers may set cookies, and you can opt out of personalised advertising.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to improve the guides.

Information collected automatically. Like most sites, our host and analytics providers log technical data when you load a page:

  • IP address (usually truncated or anonymised by our providers);
  • browser type, operating system, device type and screen size;
  • the pages you viewed, how you reached them, and how long you stayed;
  • approximate location derived from your IP address, typically at country or city level;
  • language and referring URL.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data — no payment details, no passport or ID numbers, no health information.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them, and allow selected third parties to use them, for three purposes:

  • Essential: keeping the Site working correctly and remembering basic preferences.
  • Analytics: counting visits and understanding which guides are read, so we know what to write next.
  • Advertising: delivering ads and, where permitted, measuring and personalising them.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading the Site. Where required by law, advertising and analytics cookies are only set after you consent, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time.

4. Advertising

Display advertising on this Site is served by third-party networks, including Google AdSense. These partners may use cookies and device identifiers to show you ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

  • You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google in your Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other networks via aboutads.info or Your Online Choices (EU/UK).
  • We do not control third-party cookies, and their use is governed by their own privacy policies.

5. Analytics

We measure traffic with two tools, both read in aggregate and neither used to identify you personally:

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — aggregate traffic counters from our hosting provider. It does not use cookies or track you across sites.
  • Google Analytics — provided by Google, which sets cookies (including_ga) to record the pages you view, how you reached them, how long you stay, and your approximate location. Google processes this data under its own Privacy Policy.

You can stop Google Analytics from measuring your visit by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser, or with Google's official opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you reading the Site.

6. Why we are allowed to process your data

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent — for advertising and analytics cookies where consent is required.
  • Legitimate interests — for essential operation, security, and aggregate traffic measurement.
  • Contract — where you email us and we respond.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict its processing, and receive it in a portable format. If you are in California, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the address on the About page. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

8. How long we keep data

Analytics data is retained in aggregate for as long as it is useful for planning content. Emails you send us are kept while the query is live and for a reasonable period afterwards for reference.

9. International transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

10. Children

The Site is written for adult travellers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our tools or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.

12. Contact

For any privacy question or request, use the contact address on the About page. See also our Terms of Use and Legal notices.
